ACCIDENTS

Fatehgarh Sahib: The body of a six-year-old boy, who was allegedly pushed by a man into the Bhakra canal along with six others, was on Saturday recovered from near Adampur village.

Prabhsimran Kaur's body has been located, Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said.

Khushwinder Singh, a resident of Suhavi village in Fatehgarh Sahab district, allegedly pushed seven people into the Bhakra canal some days back. However, one woman identified as Jasmeen Kaur, his cousin, managed to swim her way to safety.

Singh was arrested on June 27 and efforts were on to locate the remaining six, out of which a victim, Gurinder Singh, was found dead in the canal on Friday.

Bodies of Jasmeen's father Gurmail Singh (70), mother Paramjit Kaur(60), husband Rupinder Singh (35) and her 7-year-old son Jaskirat Singh are yet to be located.

Patiala: Four persons were killed and 40 injured on Saturday when their bus hit a roadside tree near village Kauli, 15 kms from here, police said.
The mishap took place when the bus, which was coming from Chandigarh, in a bid to overtake another vehicle, swerved hit the tree, they said.
The injured, five of them stated to be in critical condition, have been admitted to a local hospital, police said.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 25,000 to the seriously injured.
